Welly Wood / wood stewardship & learning

Care begins before the first cut.

A piece of wood has a life before it reaches the bench. The proposed learning begins by understanding its origin, condition and possibilities.

Program development · information inquiries only

Know the material.

Look closely. Ask where the wood came from, what is known about its condition and whether it suits the intended project. A teaching piece needs a known, suitable preparation before it reaches a learner.

Build understanding.

Start with measurement, marking, squareness and safe clamping. The proposed pilot focuses on hand-tool orientation and guided assembly, with supervision still to be confirmed.

Make it useful.

Connect a first project with everyday care: why a simple object is assembled the way it is, how to use it and how to extend its life.

Materials need an agreed destination.

Have wood or tools in mind for a future learning project? Ask Joseph about the idea first. Ownership, condition and intended use need agreement before Welly can accept materials. Please arrange any handover rather than leaving items at the property.

Every material has a story

A source record follows what is known about a material: where it came from, who may use it, what condition it is in and what happened next. Unknown details stay open. A finished object can carry that history alongside the maker's credit and care advice.

The proposed material passport keeps one batch identity from source to use. It records source, release permission, known species and condition, preparation and the agreed use. Accepting wood and putting it into use are separate records.
