Second Life Woodshop

Two sessions. A useful first object. An introduction to the decisions and hand skills that give recovered wood a new purpose.

The proposed first stage.

The proposed first stage brings four adult beginners together over two 2.5-hour sessions. It is a small starting cohort, with space to learn from the experience before considering expansion. Dates and registration are not open.

The intended first object is a simple reclaimed-wood storage box, made alongside basic material assessment, assembly and care knowledge.

What participants would explore.

Material provenance and suitability for the planned use. Measuring, marking and checking for square. Safe clamping and supervised hand-tool orientation. Simple assembly, surface care and looking after the finished object.

Powered-tool instruction is not promised. The finished project, tool kit and material preparation need review before an actual class is offered.

Who the proposal is for.

The proposal welcomes adults aged 18 or over with no previous woodworking experience. Ask about the learning format, mobility or communication arrangements; a general question is enough.

Cost, supervision and place.

No-fee participation is proposed, with funding and final arrangements still to be confirmed. The full cost and any assistance terms will be clear before registration opens.

A competent teaching lead and a separate trained assistant are part of the proposed format. Teaching appointments, venue, access arrangements and activity-specific coverage must be in place for an actual class. Morrison is the proposed setting.

A clear invitation when ready.

An actual invitation will include the dates, project, teaching team, place, access information, cost and participation terms. For now, an interest message starts a conversation with Joseph.

Follow one piece of wood.

The prepared lesson includes a short source-story exercise. Learners would compare a sample with its material record, name three things they can observe, separate known history from unanswered questions and explain why the piece suits the proposed box.

At the second session, each learner would connect the object to its source batch and complete a simple care record: intended use, assembly choices, surface care and one next step for keeping it useful. Personal stories and photographs remain optional.
