G BENINCASA ESTÉTICA
LOOK AGAIN. THERE IS LIFE HERE.
TOURMALINE
A small object. A practical promise.
G Benincasa Estética brings material, memory and making into view, with credit for the people behind the work and care for what comes next.
A MINERAL GROUP, NOT A SHIELD
Tourmaline is a mineral group with varied chemistry and colours. Black appearance alone does not certify schorl. GIA gives tourmaline Mohs 7-7.5 but only fair toughness: resistance to scratching is not resistance to breaking. Care is something we do, not a power assigned to stone.
MAINE / A BOX OF CHOICES
The Hamlin Memorial Library and Museum records an early-19th-century wooden box covered with quartz, smoky quartz, rose quartz, black tourmaline and mica, held with cement (2007.05). Found among Hamlin-family belongings, it turns a collection into human work. It does not establish protective power—or Maine origin—for this piece.
CHOOSE ONE PRACTICAL PROTECTION
A safe place. A clear boundary. A kept promise. Pick something you can care for today. Remove one avoidable risk. Let the object mark the action you took, not perform the action for you.
CARE CONTINUES
Support the whole piece and protect projecting edges. Avoid steam, ultrasonic cleaning and heat shock. Dust dry while matrix, coatings or repairs are unknown.
